In the dressing-room of actress Chickie Buff, Hugo rehearses a marriage proposal he intends making to Oedone when he is surprised by Chickie's fiance Osbert Bassington-Bassington who completely misinterprets the scene and rushes away distraught. Matters are further complicated when Chickie and Hugo go to a nightclub which gets raided thanks to the puritanical Earl of Tuckleford, Oedone's father. After much hilarious mayhem involving borrowed clerical garments, the day is saved by Chickie.
